Interview :: Frank Turner ‘You’ve Gotta Play The Hits’

Fresh from passing the 2,000-show milestone, an increasingly political Frank Turner discusses Trump, the struggles facing small venues and speed dating at festivals.

“Sorry I’m ranting now,” chuckles a mildly irate Frank Turner, breathless after a barrage of his political views, on everything from Donald Trump and Bernie Saunders to business rates and council regulations.

Frank Turner played a rare and intimate acoustic-gig to a 500-strong crowd at the Goose Island 312 Day celebrations, at The Yard in East London last night.

Interview :: Backstage with Get Inuit at Truck Festival 2016

If you can appreciate a band opening their set to the Pokémon theme tune, then chances are, you’re definitely going to love Get Inuit as much as we do. The fun-loving indie-pop four piece have found their way into our hearts with their riff-pop delights, quirky lyrics and frenetic live shows.

Along with their recent festival slots, and also supporting some of the best up-and-coming guitar bands including VANT and Spring King, they’ve more recently released their new single Teriyaki, which was premiered on Annie Mac’s show last week.

We caught up with lead guitarist James Simpson ahead of the band’s slot at Truck Festival last month, talking mosh pits, SXSW and cheesy 80’s tunes.

Interview :: Boundary Brighton Organisers LWE

Taking the best of Brighton‘s creative energy, lust for life and generosity of spirit, Boundary Brighton is a new festival, nestled between the crest of the Downs and the City with the sea below.

The organisers have gone all out and put together a festival that feels boutique and bespoke and coupled it with a ridiculously big line up fit for a much larger stage. The four stages are all distinctive and individualistic… a little different to the normal offering.

But is there room for a new metropolitan festival? And how do you go about selecting the acts? Is there glamour in the life of a festival organiser? The hard-working, passionate team behind LWE stole a moment from their busy schedule to give us some answers…

Interview :: exmagician Ahead of LeeFest Presents: The Neverland

It’s not by magic that Belfast duo exmagician, a.k.a longtime collaborators Danny Todd and James Smith, are garnering attention on the festival circuit. As the songwriting partnership behind Cashier No. 9, the pair are quite familiar with widespread critical acclaim.

Their new venture is propelled by a love of adventurous, psychedelic sounds, clear from the opening bars of lead track ‘Kiss That Wealth Goodbye’, taken from debut album ‘Scan The Blue’.  We caught up with ‘exmagician‘ ahead of their appearance at LeeFest Presents: The Neverland.

New York based X Ambassadors have been on our radar for a while now, and after catching them on the line up for Glastonbury 2016, we had to get to know them a little better.

True ‘Renegade’ Sam Harris tells all, proving exactly why X Ambassadors are a band we’ll be falling even more in love with as we see more and more of them in 2017…

Interview :: Etherwood Ahead of Hospitality In The Park 2016

It’s about time the UK festival scene welcomed a drum and bass heavy festival. Who better to rise to the occasion than Hospital Records’ world-renowned events brand, Hospitality?

Hospitality In The Park 2016 is set to be a landmark event for drum & bass, as well as a monumental and historical achievement for Hospital Records and a genre of dance music that is often underrepresented.

We briefly interrupted Etherwood from working on his banging tan for the low-down on all things festivals, drum & bass, and what to expect from Hospitality In The Park 2016…

Interview :: Lewis Del Mar at Dot 2 Dot Festival Manchester 2016

After building a name for themselves gradually over here in the UK over the past couple of months with only one EP released, Brooklyn duo Lewis Del Mar have experienced a crazy few weeks over the pond, playing to a packed out crowd in Brighton at The Great Escape and selling out London Lexington. And with a string of festivals lined up, it’s clear to see the electronic folk-acoustic group have settled rather nicely onto British soil.

We caught up with Danny and Max on the streets of the Northern Quarter, ahead of their Dot 2 Dot slot at the Soup Kitchen in Manchester, to talk unique artistic influences, the UK and growing up together. (And of course, an interview wouldn’t be complete without strange requests from passer-by’s, too.)

Interview :: Declan Mckenna at The Great Escape 2016

Ryan Lunn caught up with 17-year-old Declan McKenna, who is taking the music industry by storm after winning the opportunity to perform at last year’s Glastonbury.

There’s always some reason why being young is affecting something you’re doing,” explains 17-year-old Declan McKenna, “like everything is sort of connected to your age.” Having won Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition last year, McKenna found his dreams being turned into reality when he was given the opportunity to perform at the festival.

Interview :: Morning Smoke at The Great Escape 2016

Brighton’s Morning Smoke are slowly establishing themselves as one of the most exciting bands in the country. Ryan Lunn caught up with them during a hectic weekend at The Great Escape 2016.

He nearly got hit the other day,” claims Morning Smoke’s lead guitarist Max Wright, “did he not tell you?” His band mate, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Milo McNulty, is shocked. “No! He nearly got hit?” he asks, “by a customer?” It turns out that the band’s bassist, Chris Shaw, had narrowly avoided being punched by an angry punter during one of his shifts at Wetherspoons.

Interview :: Frankie Cosmos at The Great Escape 2016

Ryan Lunn caught up with Greta Kline, the leader of New York’s fiercely DIY Frankie Cosmos, after the band’s first ever UK show at Brighton’s Paganini Ballroom.

I feel like my jokes don’t fly at all here,” admits Greta Kline – the brains behind Frankie Cosmos – as her band touches down on UK soil to play Brighton’s buzz fest The Great Escape. Despite this being the band’s first ever tour of the UK, Kline is already starting to gain an understanding of the sense of humour here and just how much it contrasts across the pond.
