It was love at first sight as I laid glittery eyes on elrow’s jungle fever, Kobbarberg’s sunshine-filled Urban Forest and Victoria Park’s East London surroundings.
There was a lot of flirting at Lovebox 2016. And I’m not talking about the type of flirting where you’re hanging out at the bar asking for free bottles of wine (although guilty of that too).
Friday’s highlights included a helping of London’s very own slay Queens Little Simz, Katy B and DJ Barely Legal, all on top form. But it was Goldie, Joris Voorn, Preditah and Big Narstie that set the bar.
Unfortunately, all love affairs have their ups and downs. It was rammed in the tent for Kano, with most people unable to watch any of his set. He is a main stage artist, no one should miss out.
Moving on, we had overkill flirting from Major Lazer. The type of ex-boyfriend that keeps trying to buy back your love with bigger and more extravagant glitter cannons. Less EDM, more dancehall and reggae, please.
Saturday was all love – got deep with Oh Wonder, reached euphoria with ODESZA, became soulmates with Jodie Abacus, swooned over Jamie Woon, blushed for SG Lewis and busted some dance moves with Jungle.
Lovebox Festival is everything you could want from a city festival. Lovebox. It’s in the name. Nothing but love. In 2017, the story continues. Until then, remember to love each other.
