Kendal Calling 2017 – Ones to watch

With just under three weeks to go until the award-winning Cumbrian festival, it’s fair to say the excitement levels of those lucky enough to have a Kendal Calling ticket are pretty high right now.

The sold out weekender boasts an eclectic line-up, ranging from Jake Bugg to Idris Elba (who’d of thought?), so it’s fair to say there’s something for everyone. Check out our picks on who we think you should be catching across the weekend.

Loyle Carner

He’s the type of guy who’d invite a fan’s Dad into a gig, and perhaps more importantly knows how to put a damn good show on. Rapper Benjamin Gerard Coyle-Larner, better known as Loyle Carner (clever, huh) has been making seriously big waves since gracing us with his eloquent sound and reflective lyrics back in 2014. Don’t miss out on seeing a seriously epic set as he headlines the Calling Out stage on the Friday evening.

Blaenavon

After the release of their debut album ‘That’s Your Lot’ earlier on this year, there’s just no stopping this indie-alt trio right now. With a raw energy and penchant for compelling lyrics, watching Blaenavon live is an absolute treat and something that certainly shouldn’t be missed. You can catch them on the Calling Out stage on the Sunday evening.

She Drew The Gun

Winners of last year’s Glastonbury Emerging Talent competition, psych-pop group She Drew The Gun are no strangers to the festival scene. Signed by James Skelly’s Skeleton Key Records, the band from Wirral, Merseyside have gained praise from the likes of Zane Lowe and Huw Stephens for their sultry vocals and heartfelt lyrics. See them for yourself on the Woodlands stage on Saturday evening.

Saytr Play

New music is such an important part of Kendal Calling, so it’s great to see North West four-piece Saytr Play are making their debut at the Cumbrian weekender. Lead singer Fred Farrell exudes a boundless energy which is a joy to watch, and will no doubt have the crowd going crazy in the fields this year. Don’t miss them on the Woodlands stage.
