Live At Leeds 2019 top picks & playlist

Live at Leeds Festival are back for their 13th year, ready to throw at us another day festival filled with incredible emerging talent.

The festival will be held on the first May bank holiday, Saturday 4th May, across various venues around Leeds City Centre such as O2 Academy, Belgrave Music Hall, Church, Northern Guitars Café Bar, Leeds Student Union and Headrow House.

Live At Leeds promotes up and coming UK-based and international artists so that fans can discover brand new music whilst watching some of their already favourite acts in smaller venues, creating a more intimate festival experience.

This year we see some of the biggest acts from 2018 including Insanity Records’ Tom Grennan who will be headlining the Farah Stage (Leeds UU Refectory) after the huge success of his debut album.

Live At Leeds also welcomes Sam Fender who continues to wow fans with his raw talent and distinctive vocals. Fans can head to the O2 Academy to preview tracks from his long-awaited debut album, Hypersonic Missiles which is due to be released 9th August.

The bright, bold sound of Sundara Karma will take over the O2 Academy after the release of their shiny second studio album ‘Ulfilas’ Alphabet’, released last month. Their definitive indie-pop-rock sound has produced an ever-increasing fan base, including a packed UK tour and 1.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Rob Ellis, Lou Cotterrill and Jacob Leff make up Northern Trio Cassia. Recently signed by Distiller Records, their distinctive jazz-focused, head-bopping tracks are uplifting, bright and guaranteed to make fans feel as though they’re somewhere dreamy – their lyrics emphasise all the happy vibes! Be sure to watch them on the Dance to the Radio Stage at Church, 6.30pm, as they play songs from their debut album ‘Replica’.

We recommend spending your Saturday afternoon with alternative rock band Bloxx. The London-based, female-fronted quartet combine heavy riffs and melodic pop to produce catchy tracks such as the popular ‘Sea Blue’. Other standout tracks include ‘Novocain’ ‘You’ and ‘Monday’.  They’ll play the Dork Stage at The Wardrobe.

For a chilled set, head to Church to catch Seafret. The talented Yorkshire duo combine violin, piano and acoustic guitar to produce something incredibly beautiful. Tracks include ‘Oceans’ ‘Loving You’ and ‘Wildfire’ and portray an emotional rollercoaster, with lyrics heavily focused around the theme of love.

Our other faves include British boys, Sea Girls, who will play the Farah Stage to showcase some of their best indie tunes following their sold out tour with The Academic. Sea Girls’ Heavenly War EP includes catchy, upbeat tracks ‘Lost’ ‘What For’ and an incredible acoustic remake of  popular ‘Call Me Out’.

Be sure to also catch the talented MAX RAD who has emerged with a bunch of chilled yet enthusiastic electronic tracks such as ‘Flesh & Blood’ ‘Carousel’ and ‘Rumours’, contrasting his indie-folk background. Catch him at 7pm at Headrow House for something different.
