In an age of carefully plotted hype and the by-the-numbers brutality of EDM, Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight, better known as ODESZA, stand out as authentic.
After relentless touring, ODESZA quickly honed a live craft to match that of their recordings. It’s tempting to close your eyes and get lost in the music, but from warm red hues, to neon rainbow strobes; starry disco lights and psychedelic artful visuals, the duo’s full production demands a lot of energy!
The pair work passionately, beating to the same drum and adding in the occasional synchronised twirl. If the twirl isn’t ODESZA’s signature dance move yet, then it so totally should be.
The ongoing mixtape and party series NO.SLEEP. is where my obsession with ODESZA began. Tonight the set-list did not disappoint. Remixes of ZHU’s ‘Faded’ and Hayden James’ ‘Something About You’ worked perfectly.
The set gets heavy in parts, with ODESZA testing out a harder, grittier edge and dirty bass-line.
Highlights of the evening include an exceptional live performance of ‘Bloom’, the unexpected 90s RnB vibes on ‘Waited 4 U’, and the huge crowd reaction to ‘Sun Models’, completed by the overwhelming love felt in the room at the end of the show for ‘Say My Name’.
After choosing East London’s Troxy as the first UK venue to host full production, ODESZA confirm on-stage this is the best UK show they have ever done.
