Lorde is about to do what Jesus never could, come back a third time. ‘Solar Power’ is the first teaser of her new era. These tweets sum it up perfectly:
Last night (7 June) Lorde updated her website with the cover art of what appears to be her comeback single, ‘Solar Power’.
She also confirmed her long-awaited return in the text underneath the artwork, which reads: “ARRIVING IN 2021 … PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE.”
The news of Lorde’s return follows last month’s announcement that Lorde will headline one of the nights on the second weekend of Primavera Sound 2022.
Primavera Sound 2022 is the only live date to be confirmed for Lorde so far.
Jack Antonoff, who worked with Lorde through her 2017 Melodrama era, also shared the artwork on Instagram, hinting that he remains involved.
Last November, via her Instagram, Lorde revealed that her long-awaited third era was inspired by a trip she took to Antarctica in 2019.
Albums live in their own realms in a way, and Antarctica really acted as this great white palette cleanser, a sort of celestial foyer I had to move through in order to start making the next thing. In the plane coming down to land, I had this very intense bolt-of-lightning thought, which in all its eloquence was literally ‘DON’T MAKE SHIT RECORDS’.Lorde – via Instagram
Lorde is yet to provide more details on ‘Solar Power’, although it is rumoured the single will arrive on June 21st.
