Diving into the line up for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2022

Primavera Sound Barcelona is an 11-day urban festival with an exceptional line-up in which the whole city will be involved with six days in the Parc del Fòrum plus a party on the beach of Sant Adrià de Besòs and four days in the venues of Barcelona.

The 20th Anniversary of Primavera Sound has been declared an Event of Special Interest. A distinction that recognises Primavera Sound as one of the most important cultural events in Spain, as well as one of the best music festivals at an international level.

The 20th Anniversary of Primavera Sound will be a historic milestone in Spanish culture. After two years without being able to take place due to COVID-19, those attending the 20th edition of Primavera Sound in Barcelona – the edition that needs the most time to unleash all its uniqueness – will be able to enjoy the best artists from all over the world.

The festival will be held from 2nd to 12th June 2022, with a record duration in the history of the festival of eleven days, extending over two weekends and offering a total of 500 concerts.

The colour-coded poster for Primavera Sound 2022 was revealed in May 2021, giving us more than a year to savour the line up. On the topic of time, Primavera headliners Tame Impala will finally perform songs from ‘The Slow Rush’. A record that holds more meaning after all the time lost.

The lineup for Primavera Sound 2022 Barcelona is gender-equal, in line with the festival’s public commitment. Pop powerhouses Charli XCX, Sky Ferreira, Lorde, SHYGIRL and Caroline Polachek will be celebrated.

The best new front women in rock will also feature. From New York, Gustaf. From Australia, Amyl & The Sniffers. And from the UK, Wet Leg.

Representing the LGBTQ+ community is the likes of Dorian Electra, King Princess, Rina Sawayama and Girl In Red.

One of the biggest surprises on the line up is the addition of Phoenix –
a band that has defined French pop in the last two decades. Thomas Mars, Deck ďArcy, Laurent Brancowitz and Christian Mazzalai will come back to the Barcelona festival almost ten years after their previous visit, in 2013.

Primavera Sound 2022 looks to the past, present and the future. Meet me in the bathroom? Feel the nostalgia of that venerated New York scene of the early 2000s with The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Interpol. And go back in time with Californian icon Beck.

Glittering house and techno is reserved for the early hours. The usual culprits all appear, . Extraordinary bookings, setting Primavera Sound apart from the rest, include cult Liverpool producer and Yeezus collaborator, Evian Christ – on hand to pull off a ridiculously dark and heavy trance show.

Primavera has recognised that the world did not stop turning during the pandemic. And in the absence of live music, new artists emerged, releasing new sounds into the world at a time we needed it the most. Future festival headliners Fred Again.., Griff, Working Men’s Club, Squid, Holly Humberstone, Gracey & more will make their debut.

When hip hop’s smartest rap duo dropped RTJ4, it instantly became what the world needed to hear. Not only is this album a rap masterclass, it’s an education on systemic racism and police brutality. RTJ4 was recorded before America was ignited in protest; almost as if the events of 2020 were predictable. holy calamafuck. They were. It’s been a long time coming for change and there’s still so much work to do. Run The Jewels return to Primavera Sound Barcelona for an unmissable set.

Festivals returning in 2021 was the warm-up for what will be a kaleidoscopic carousel of feelings brought on by recovering, discovering and rediscovering live music at Primavera Sound 2022.
