Lewis Capaldi performs to an intimate crowd of day ones at Manchester’s small capacity Club Academy

Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi found overnight success in 2017. After uploading his first single ‘Bruises’ on Spotify, Lewis supported Rag ‘N’ Bone Man on tour, travelled the US with his music, and played major festivals including TRNSMT in Glasgow.

Capaldi dropped his first EP towards the end of last year – an incredibly heartfelt, raw collection of songs, somewhat unexpected from a guy in his early twenties.

Lewis combines sombre love songs with a cheeky sense of humour, keeping the intimate Manchester Club Academy crowd engaged as he jokes: ‘I’ll try not to be sh*t’.

Before surprising the crowd with new track ‘Grace’, Lewis seems humbled by his fans, who sing every word back to him on popular songs ‘Lost On You’ and ‘Fade’.

As he ends the night with ‘Bruises’, you get the feeling this is the last time we’ll see Lewis Capaldi play a venue of this size. Sounding even better live than he does on record, Lewis Capaldi has a long career ahead of him. He’s legit the next Ed Sheeran.
