From Tomorrowland to EXIT Festival, Defected & more – the best NYE live streams

I never thought we’d be here, but the only way to spend New Year’s Eve is to stay home, save lives, and manifest the return of live music in 2021.

At a time when mental health has never been more important, these live stream events aim to bring the world that little bit closer.

Tomorrowland

The countdown to New Year’s Eve is on and Tomorrowland have got it covered with a celebration for their fans around the world. This is not just DJ’s performing sets from their homes, this is a fascinating and immersive digital world that has been specially created with four stage designs in the brand-new digital entertainment venue NAOZ.

The unique digital New Year’s Eve festival starts at 20:00 (8pm) local time in all time zones in the world with performances by more than 25 of the planet’s best artists. There’s a special countdown at midnight featuring fireworks in every time zone, ensuring that you can ring in the new year in style, no matter where you are located.

You’ll have plenty of choices on who you can dance into the new year with when the clock hits midnight: CamelPhat (Atmosphere stage), Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike (Melodia stage), Diplo (Planaxis stage) or Brennan Heart (Pulse stage).

Defected, We Dance As One

This year’s foray into live streaming was pioneered by London’s world renowned dance music label, Defected. The independent label will host their final Virtual Festival for the year, in place of their yearly New Year’s Eve club events, with an all-star line-up.

After the cancellation of Defected’s New Year’s Eve show at Printworks London, two acts will stream from the venue, Sonny Fodera and Gorgon City, who will be reunited for the first time since the pandemic began in March. Also among the acts performing is Inner City, Roger Sanchez and Dom Dolla.

Having fundraised for mental health charity Mind with the first event in October, the second and third instalments of We Dance As One are raising money for The Trussell Trust, a UK-based charity that supports a nationwide network of food banks, providing emergency food and support for people locked in poverty and working towards a hunger free future.

We Dance As One 3.0 will be live streamed across Defected’s YouTube, Facebook and Twitch platforms on Thursday 31 December.

24 The Haçienda House Party

FAC 51 The Haçienda is throwing their third Haçienda House Party with award-winning digital platform United We Steam Greater Manchester, this time for twenty-four hours straight – as it chases New Year’s Eve around the world.

Beginning at the start of the day on the Pacific Date Line in Fiji at 10AM GMT, the marathon event features a line-up of live guests and DJs, for households to say fuck you 2020, and welcome in the new year.

The entire 24-hour live stream will be broadcast as a digital reconstruction of FAC51 with the DJs performing to a virtual crowd in the original recreated venue.

Returning for a bespoke one-off live performance is Haçienda Classical with Manchester Camerata and AMC Choir, produced exclusively for New Year’s Eve by DJ Graeme Park and musical director Tim Crooks alongside the Camerata orchestra, musicians and vocalists including Yvonne Shelton, Melanie Williams, Rae Hall and some surprise special guests.

A very special tribute to Frankie Knuckles is planned: The Frankie Knuckles Foundation will replay Frankie’s 2013/2014 NYE Albert Hall Manchester set, performed within the virtual Haçienda.

The DJ roster for New Year’s Eve for the event is one of The Hacienda’s strongest ever. From the New York scene: Danny Tenaglia, David Morales, Todd Terry and Tony Humphries. From Detroit, Carl Craig, and live from Los Angeles, Moby, with all playing one off, exclusive sets.

24 The Haçienda House Party is free to watch, but you can donate via the website, with all income of the stream split 50% for the oneGM campaign, and 50% to charities chosen by The Haçienda: Save The Children, The Frankie Knuckles Foundation and PeaceMeal in Ancoats.
